Donkey Kong 64 has 5 characters that you will use to make your way through the game. There are 8 huge worlds in the game and many challenging bosses. Depending on which character you use, you will be able to access different areas of each level. There are 109 special moves for you to master to make you way through the game.
Each world has a boss at the end of it and you have to defeat the boss differently depending on which character you are using. This could also mean that threr will be different endings for each character. We'll have to wiat and see.
Rare has confirmed that there will be animal friends in Donkey Kong 64 (like the rhino, spider, parrot, elephant, etc.) as there were in the Donkey Kong Country Series. Rare has not said what the animals will be although some of the previous ones will be making returns. So far, all I know is that Rambi, the Rhino, is in the game and you get to ride him around. Squacks, the parrot, gives you information throughout the game (like the owl in Zelda), but he probably won't be playable.
While Donkey Kong 64 is a true platformer, there are also many other types of levels including racing levels, first person shooter levels, and minecart levels. There are somewhere between 30 to 40 minigames including boat races, slot car competitions, and kremling target shoots. There best part about the mini-games is that you can play them in a 4-player mode Mario Party style. This adds a ton of replay value to the game.
Another great part of the game is the 4-player deathmatch. You choose your favorite monkey and go at it with up to 3 friends. You can use weapons and other power ups.
Nintendo has said that Donkey Kong 64 will beat Zelda in both size and sales. So far it looks to be true.
